FRONT COVER:
I used a banner at the top and bottom of my magazine because I thought it was a good way of representing artists and information about what can be found inside. Like in the Kerrang magazine, it makes the information look as though its better presented and structured which improves its look of professionalism.
The masthead font that I used was taken from the 'Kerrang' logo. The font is very distorted and has cracked markings to suggest the edgy feel to the rock genre. This will immediately help my audience to identify my genre of music magazine.
In 'Kerrang' the headings of certain titles have a brush effect as a background to make the text stand out a little more.
The general colour for extra writing on the page for example; stories etc are wrote in white writing with a red background. This makes it easy to read and therefore will look eye catching since the colours are bright.
The main picture used is a mid shot allowing us to see the top half of the artists body but also see the eye contact well. This is good since it will make a more personal approach to the reader.
CONTENTS PAGE:
Like the 'Kerrang' magazine, I made sure that I left out the word 'Page' before I stated the number. This, in my opinion makes the page look a little neater and it also saves room.
The page numbers and artists are all aligned to the right, which also makes the contents look more professional and makes it easier to read. and obtain information from.
I've also taken the idea of placing a picture of the front cover onto my contents page like in Kerrang. I think this just promotes the front cover a little more.
Kerrang has a editors message in every on of their magazines. I think that this makes an immediate connection with the audience/ reader. As a result, this is why I decided to use the idea on my magazine.
I took the influence from the Kerrang structure also. Most of it's text has been set out really professionally in collumns. I think that it makes the magazine look easier to read and more inviting. In addition to this, even the stories have been split up into sections which makes the contents page become more suitable. For example, it allowes the audience member to prioritise certain stories.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
Like in Kerrang, the picture is on one side and then the copy is on the other. By seperating them I think it makes the structure look a little better.
I got the idea of the story, from this article. Most double page spread interviews are of new albums that are coming out or just in general. But I wanted to put a twist on it. The story itself would come under the develop section.
I have used collums, to make the text look neater and well presented.
DEVELOP
FRONT COVER
The banner at the top showing what artists are in the magazine, is quite similar but on mine I haven't cut it off. It merges in with the start of the masthead.
The colours used in my magazine in comparison with the Kerrang one are very similar, but I have put grey in mine as well and mixed the colours around more. I think this gives it a larger edge, since I've put colours together that aren't as obvious.
The main story isn't as large. I think that it works quite well on the Kerrang magazine, but I couldn't have it this big on mine since I didn't want to block off my artists face in anyway as I think it would act as a barrier between her and the readers/audience.
I have used the idea of having a poster special, but I have only included one. This is because I wanted all focus to be on my main model to make a larger impact.
CONTENTS PAGE
The Kerrang contents page has a edgy border going around 2 sides of it. I took this as I think it gives it that rock look and found different textures and added a red drop shadow onto mine as well to add a bit of colour to it.
For where it says 'Contents,' although I've taken the style of writing, the colours used are a little different. I wanted my background image to show through the letters rather than use yellow. Kerrang has used yellow on a few occassions on this page, but I've stayed away from it as I feel it wouldn't compliment the rest of the contents very well.
The layout of whats inside the magazine is the same. I have kept it right aligned, although the colours we've used are very different.
The layout and structure of how I've presented my images is very similar also, but I haven't used as many images.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
*The layout is similar on both double page spreads. On the other hand, my title doesn't take up half of the page because I wanted to have the picture getting most attention.
*The colour of the text is different but it's still set out the same way. I wanted to stick to my colour scheme of black and red to keep the consistency.
*Both artists have been dressed in either black, red or both. On the other hand, both styles are different.
CHALLENGE
FRONT COVER
*Most Kerrang magazines have groups on the front cover and most are usually male. I wanted to change this and have a solo artist to show both sides.
CONTENTS PAGE
*I've included a review on my contents page to invite more people in and brainwash them into buying my magazine.
* Most Kerrang magazines have a plain white background but to avoid having blank space I added a star effect which adds to the rock feel of my magazine.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
* Most images are very bold but on mine I've merged and faded the background of my image onto the second side. I think this makes the page look better presented.
* I've only used 2 columns. I did this because it fits in more with the structure of my double page spread.
*I've used a border around the story to add a rock effect to it.
